Booting an OS off an external HD
Hah, this isn'
t really a practical question to me (at this point), more a curiosity question. Could you boot an OS (say a linux distro like ubuntu or knoppix) off of an external hard drive? I mean, what would prevent you from when you go to install it, connect your external hard drive, and tell it to install to that hard drive. Then, you could take it anywhere with you, and provided you connect it too the computer before turning it on, it should recognize two OS'
s, and boot to the one you choose. Is this theory possible? I don'
t have an external hard drive, or else I would willingly test it. Does anyone either know for sure, or are capable and willing to try this out? It'
d be kinda cool...
