Web directories
On my site I've got a directory that I uploaded a bunch of my stupid video clips and stuff, basically with the idea in mind that if I ever wanted to get a hold of one that I didn't have on me, I could just go to this directory, choose the one I wanted from the list, and download it. It was a test as much as anything, because if it worked I could do the same thing with other personal files that I needed to move (obviously password-protecting those directories). The problem is, when I go to the directory, I get a 403 forbidden... I accessed the directory by FTP and made sure the permission were set as 755 (read/write/execute for me, read/execute for all others), but it still doesn't work. If I type in the entire URL for the file, it works fine, but I just can't get to the web directory, I thought that that's turned on by default... any ideas?

if you are trying to access the files through a brower, it will be using the iusr account by default.

what I'm saying is I can't get to main subdirectory, like www.example.com/subdirectory, in the case that the subdirectory has a listing of files without an index.html. According to the permissions all should be able to read the folder, but you get a 403. If I enter an individual file name it pops right up, but I can't get to the listing

in IIS any way you have to have browse enabled.

you want directory browsing enabled. not sure how that is handled on a linux machine, but on a m$ machine, you would do it through iis (internet information services - it runs asp).

if you contact your host, they will turn directory browsing on for you. there may also be a php script that you could use that would show you all files in a folder for accessing through a browser.
