Does anyone know someone who has a Kindle? Are they good tablets? I would like something to just do basic tablet stuff, nothing fancy and this has a great price tag.

I think a nexus is probably better because then you get pure android instead of Amazon'
s android
http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/103110/ebay-16gb-asus-google-nexus-7-7-android-4.1-tablet-refurbished-cover?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed
%3a+slickdealsnetfp+%28slickdeals.net+frontpage%29&utm_content=google+feedfetcher
not bad for a refurb nexus (last year'
s model)
Back to your question the people I know that have a fire HD do really like them.

yeah a lot of it depends on how much you want to spend. I would probably wait and see what Apple does this month if I were you. If price is your main concern the 229 nexus is probably your best bet.
I was hoping to have my mini sold today on Craig'
slist because I am prepping to buy one or two tablets next month :-)
...one will be from Apple for sure
The other will either be the nexus 7 or if M% comes out with a cheaper smaller tablet I may go that route.
My second one will probably be one of those Black Friday Meijer specials :-)

my mini is sold so I now I need apple to unveil the new iPads and Minis so I can decide which one to get :-)
for full size would like it to be a little smaller and a lot lighter/thinner and better speakers
for mini need way better performance and a nicer screen would be great.
Probably will be a tough decision between the two if they change the full size one according to the leaks.

completely agree with byers on going nexus instead of fire. amazon has been very restrictive on what you can put on the fire. . .and they are heavier than the nexus.
