If you have the 64 bit OS installed you will have problems running programs...
I have heard that many programs still aren'
t even compatible with vista...you may need to look on message boards or search microsoft for any patches to get AOE to run on vista.
The issue with 64 bit is the use of addressing and memory going back an forth between Ram and the processor etc...we still live in a 32 bit world. You can install a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit machine though, I think. The 64 bit proc and OS will allow you to fully utilize a ton of ram though.

If AoE doesn'
t run on 32 bit Vista, then I'
ll definitely get a good laugh out of that (AoE is published by Microsoft Games), but i wouldn'
t be shocked (but slightly surprised) if it doesn'
t run under x64. Just because you have a 64 bit processor doesn'
t mean you are running (or have to run) x64 Vista, and if you are, pop the 32 bit disc in and reinstall 32 bit to save yourself some time and frustration (nice thing about Ultimate is that you get both). Yeah you definitely can run 32 bit on a 64 bit machine, AMD has been putting out x64 processors for years.

Pop the disc in and totally reinstall Vista with the 32 bit disc. Backup first and make it a clean install.

It would be ashame if he has to format to run AOE. If he installed 32 bit wouldn'
t his machine lose some of its quality?
