Microphone Problems
I'
ve got an issue that kinda came out of the blue. I fired up skype a few days ago and made a call, and my microphone would only work if I blew into it as hard as I could. I figured maybe it was a microphone problem, so I unplugged it and used the built-in microphone, which predictably, didn'
t work. I then figured it was a skype problem, I tested with sound recorder, google talk, and one other thing and confirmed it'
s not a skype problem. I fished through in the control panel and found the microphone mixer and it'
s turned all the way up... Any ideas? The thing that stumps me is its all microphones, plugged in or built-in, so there'
s got to be a messed up setting somewhere, I'
m just not sure where all to look. I used the microphone for something probably two weeks ago or so, so it has worked before (lots of times), I can'
t think of what could'
ve changed...

Did the person on the other end tell you this - or were you listening to your speakers? Because when I use my microphone - I often can'
t hear it on my speakers as I'
m talking - but it comes out fine on the playback.

there are several microphone things on the sound mixer playback and recording etc. You want to make sure you check all. Somewhere you have something turned down that should be up.

i went to:
controlpanel->sound/audio devices->voice tab->volume button under voice recording-
in this thing it'
s called the recording control tab, weird thing is there'
s only two columns- stereo mix and microphone (on my other computer it'
s line in, external mic, and internal mic for some bizarre reason). They'
re both turned all the way up, but what I don'
t get is there'
s a little check box underneath both of them that says select, but you can'
t check both of them at the same time. Is this significant, or am I going to the wrong place?
