Finally a major company is doing it
http://www.dellideastorm.com/

Dell launched a site that basically has a digg-like way of getting ideas out there. People submit ideas, and other people vote on them and comment on them. Hopefully other major companies will follow suit. Granted, not all of the ideas people post are anything worth caring about (like having michael dell appear in dell commercials...),but there are multiple submissions in the top 10 of people wanting the option to not have pre-loaded garbage (aol, earthlink...). Other higher-up ideas include having an online laptop-design contest... anyways, hopefully this is useful and becomes a trend...

this is really cool to hear, dell is already working with novell on pre-installed linux options on their Opti-plex, latitude, and precisision lines... I wouldn't use it, but it's always nice to have another option out there. They're also (planning on) allowing you to easily opt out of pre-installed software (granted it would raise the price). Another thing they hinted at but didn't say is having open-source software preinstalled, such as open-office or firefox, which would be really cool. I know I could never stand to use linux as my primary OS, but I know some people would, and flexibility is nice...
