FAT32 VS. NTFS
So, those external hard drives that we all bought I believe are formatted under FAT32. I have had some trouble playing some media files off of them. I heard that the problem was the formatting and need to format it to NTFS. Is this true? And if it is, how do I format it?

Mine wasn't even formatted yet but if you have windows xp you do want to do NTFS...

TR is right. Another way tot do it....especially if you ever want to partition them or something is to right click on My computer and click Manage...you should then have an option to work with your drives.

O.K. I got the same hard drive that JDOG got and windows is not giving it a drive letter. I can see it in device manager, but there's no drive letter so i can't format it as usual. Any ideas?

I did some troubleshooting and it's only doing that on my laptop (which explains alot). It works fine on my other computers, so any ideas about that?

Wildcard, couldn't you format it on one of the other computers, or are you saying after you've formatted it, it still doesn't have a drive letter?

I did format it on another computer, but I posted before I tried. I haven't checked back to see if it works on my other laptop now.
