Networking with two routers
CompUSA has routers going for $2 after rebate. I already have a wireless router. Can I network 2 routers together? Or would I just be wasting my 2 bucks.

you can do that...it is pretty easy.

You can make a second or third router an access point or a separate network...

example one network is 192.168.0.1

second network is 192.168.1.1 etc.

I am thinking of picking up one on Friday as well so my sister-in-law will be on her own network.

Now that you mention that, I've been considering grabbing an access point for our wireless network at our house. The reason is even though we don't have a huge apartment, the wireless often won't carry throughout the whole house because these apartments for whatever reason have extremely thick cement walls, instead of drywall, which totally kills the range of our router. Are there better options to increase the range, or would an access point/second router do the job. The router actually seems to have plenty of range, because I'll be in my room and it will pick up 4 or 5 bars, but when I try to connect, 9 times out of 10 it won't be able to maintain a connection, meaning sometimes it just doesn't connect, and some times it starts to but never gets an IP address. What would you recommend to increase the range/connectivity.

sounds like interference more than anything...you may want to try changing channels. There are basically like 3 sets of channels 1-3, 4-8, and the rest.

What i use is a 6dbi external antenna. If your router only has one antenna these are very inexpensive and can increase your range greatly.

looks like this

I got mine for like $10 from compusa...

I know i'm getting interference from at least our cordless phone. problem is, we have dsl, so the router and the phone (both on the same 3.2 ghz or whatever it is, cant remember off the top of my head) can only be so far away from each other. I got a longer cord and moved them further away, and have noticed improvement in range and connectivity. It's on channel 6 i think, maybe i'll try switching it around a little bit. I'll have to go the computer store and see if i can find something like that. Our router is a dlink DI-624 with one antenna (same model we had at home if you remember it), so i might see if i can find another antenna. i'm sure there's one at the store, problem is the computer store is 6 or 7 floors high (no joke) so its hard to find what you want sometimes.

Edit: actually we have ADSL, and even though this is getting further and further off-topic, what's the difference between DSL and ADSL?

i am not quite sure what the difference is between ADSL and DSL but it sounds like you need to dump your 2.4ghz phone and get a 900mhz or 5 ghz set....if you find the right channel though on your router you may be fine.
