Forcing Windows Update
Hey guys, I was asked to fix a computer for my church. The machine is ten years old and the disk that I have is Windows XP Profession SP1. I installed everything fine and then I went to IE to do the Windows Update. Upon entering Microsoft.com it notified me that I was unable to download any updates because I do not have SP3. I set the automatic updates etc and have tried to see if they will download automatically. And it does not appear to be doing this. I searched for the Service Pack updates and all I got was the developers service pack intended for multiple PC push via a network. Any solutions to this one? Thanks

The reason I think it isn't getting the updates is because if I am not mistake Microsoft is no longer supporting SP1 or SP2. You must have SP3 to do anything. I might have a xp disk that has SP3 included if you need it. Let me know and I will take a look.

Ya, thanks. I got it to run. I had to manually download the SP3 upgrade and it worked from there. I had looked for it previously but it said that it was the developers edition and I shoulda just delved in rather than worry about what it said lol
