I think the competition have to beat apple on price and features by a big margin if they want to catch up quickly.

More than likely it will take a few years like it did with the iPhone.

When the competition brings out their first iteration Apple will be introducing their next version at a lower price more than likely because of the early sales they will be able to reduce manufacturing costs and lower prices while keeping really high margins.

part of the problem is even when these DO come out... most people wont know about them. thats what apple is able to do so much better than anyone else - EVERYONE knows what the ipad is. how many people have heard of the samsung galaxy table? and that's not even talking about which is better - because you can't have that argument until people know another option even exists. this is the major problem microsoft ran into with zune (besides the fact that the ipod was just better) - is no one really knew what it was. i mean sure, towards the end most people were aware of its existence, but to them it was just another ipod knock-off along with the creative zens and stuff. if companies want to create an "ipad killer" - they need to REALLY go at it, rather than pushing out a tablet half-heartedly and then not marketing it like crazy. actually better yet - they need to get it out there *before* the ipad, but the boat has sailed on that one

vzw marketed their moto droid very effectively...for guys. it will be interesting to see if a tablet comes out that appeals to both genders like the ipad.

I have a feeling apple will be coming out with an ipad refresh Jan 2011 which will probably include lower prices. Maybe something similar to what they do with the iphone where they have a cheaper model to get you in as an entry point and then a regular model at the current price point with a couple new features.

sounds like they are trying to make a tablet that acts like a desktop. . .which i don't see a huge market for.

Isn't that what has made all other tablets not work? I think you need a physical keyboard for content creation. The iPad works because it is good at consumption which is what most people do most of the time at home.

I think when a good android tablet comes out we will see begin to see some good competition and the prices of tablets will probably be about the same as netbooks which will be sweet. I would love to have an iPad with guts like my iPhone. Faster proc, more memory, cameras and retina display.

yeah. . .even a bluetooth keyboard for a tablet seems misguided. the point of the device shouldn't be the same as the point of a netbook, laptop, or desktop.
