Seems that the original droid can't do what the X and 2 will be able to do with the O.S. update but maybe there will be ways around it.

haha. i wouldn't use either of those with vzw anyway...they charge way too much, but it is curious that they say it can't be done. i have done usb tethering with pdanet in rare circumstances where i couldn't get to a wifi spot. . .but i wasn't cranking through youtube or hulu, just checking a few things on the netbook.

droid also won't be able to update to 3.0 later this year, but i haven't seen anything in 3 that would make me want it at this point. it looks like 3 will be mainly for tablets and phones with 1ghz+ procs (like the x). i am looking forward to 2.2 though.

yeah if froyo is anything like a jailbroken iPhone you can tether without carrier permission because I am pretty sure you can tether a jailbroken iphone without paying extra for tethering but it will just eat into your iphone data plan.

I would think a droid device could do similar as well....but maybe not.

Yeah I had a discussion about how fast android phones become obsolete which hurts the resale value and number of cheap accessories. He said the waiting list for an incredible when he got his 1st gen droid was over a month...by the time you he would have gotten his incredible the X would have come out.
