i tend to agree with those that say the current way of doing search is not where "it" is at ...I think google knows this as well.
People want more relevant searches based on people they trust etc.
I think using social in search is going to be really big. That might mean facebook/twitter integration or something else.
Digg4 has figured this out by not showing what is important based on what a select group of diggers have gamed the system to be but based on what your friends or groups you are in think is important.
then again since mobile search is going to be so big having integrated search (google/bing etc) as defaults seems very similar to the old IE inside windows thing of the late 90s.

I am going to laugh when some day the gov't says google has to enable bing as a search provider...just cause you have a gmail address and google/ig doesn't mean you want to search with google.
Actually that is probably the number one reason why I still use google. I don't really care for their ui anymore but i am tied to gmail/calendar/docs etc.

The samsung galaxy looks like the best android phone so far and I would probably consider it but since I have the iPad and already have money in iPhone/iPad apps it doesn't make a lot of sense.
there aren't really that many necessary paid apps for android. the ones i use on a regular basis are free. everything you would possibly want to do with an iphone you can do with your ipad. . .so why 2 separate devices that do the same thing?

yeah the ipad and iphone/touch are not the same thing at all.
my ipad is used for internet surfing full browser etc. I never use my laptop unless I am creating a really long document of some sort or editing a movie. It is connected the bedroom tv and doesn't move.
The ipad has a much bigger screen than a touch/iphone so for browsing the internet and reading emails at home it is great...along with a few games I use etc on it. I also watch streaming video on my ipad which is a much better experience than watching it on my touch.
I can see why many people who don't have an ipad think that an ipad and touch are really the same device and they are in a lot of ways but you don't do the same things with each of them. I run with my touch...not with my ipad. I use my touch in the car..not the ipad. I surf on the ipad --- not so much on the touch anymore.
The plan will be for the touch to be used mainly by the kids when I get a new phone and the kids won't be able to use either of the phones.
so I probably have $50/60 in apps that either I have purchased or Amber has with my acct so we can all use them. I think the seemless integration between my existing content is really hard to give up.
The galaxy is probably the best android form factor at this point. Micah had me look at and he was considering it too but even he went with another iphone.
I will probably see what goes on Friday and make a decision then.
i wasn't actually being serious. . .since you have made your position known in the past.
however, the things that you described doing on your touch could all be done on any smartphone. . .and since you already have so many google connections, an android would be ideal in some ways (plus, you could sell your turn-by-turn gps unit).

Yeah the thought has crossed my mind but I guess until I play with an android form factor I like it would be hard to move to that. Does your phone sync with iTunes? If not what do you use for music and podcasts?
there may be a way to sync with itunes, but i've never liked itunes. . .so i didn't bother to find out. there is a built-in music player (or several others that you can download) for normal listening and i use "Listen" for podcasts.
