it depends on what all you are looking to do with it. if you want it to be portable, i would recommend going with one of the small, self-contained units. if it is going to sit on your desk almost all the time, i would recommend considering a hdd enclosure. the benefits of the enclosure is that you could buy an internal hd (cheaper) and swap it out with another drive later if you need more space or need to repair a hd from your desktop. some enclosures will support both sizes of hds. . .i would go that route.

Look at tiger direct.. I have two different ones from there.
I have a 2.5 inch one for my laptop drive all aluminum.
I also have a 3.5 one with a built in fan and leds.
I think mine are sabrent or mascool...they are fairly inexpensive and work great. If you get one that is going to be on all the time. I would get one with a built in fan.

also note most of the 3.5 inch ones should have there own power supply...the 2.5s won'
t usually they will just run off your usb port

you just buy the enclosure at Tiger and then buy any drive you can get a good deal on...
I would buy what ever is cheapest...should be down to .50 or .25 per gig at this point,...I would think.
