budget freeware
Not sure how much you guys are interested in tracking your finances, but a budget is a good idea (so you aren't always asking yourself - where did all my cash go? oh yeah, those candy bars at lunch).

I was trying to find a program I could run on both my work computer (Windows XP) and/or my home computer (Linux). There are a few finance apps with versions both for Windows and Linux, but most cost $30+. So I looked for some cross-platform apps, and Java is the natural solution. There's three primary options that I found:

Buddi - this has the best feature/simplicity ratio.

JGnash - a little more complicated (double-entry accounting - if you don't know what that is, check wikipedia) - but it does let you import QIF (Quicken) or GnuCash (Linux finance app) files.

PLCash - this one doesn't appear as polished as the first two, though the functionality is there, and the report function appears more customizable.

So, if you want something simple to track your spending and make a basic budget, Buddi seems to be the best option. It's Java, so sometimes a little sluggish, but not too bad in my experience.

Any idea why Buddi isn't working? And can all these be used on Window's computers?

Not sure - I'm using a slightly older version, haven't updated in a month or two. Yes, they should all work in Windows or Linux; possibly even on a Mac, depending whether you have the right Java runtime installed.

Yea, I got it. I was on the wireless network at school so it must of been something going on there because I got it fine at my house. Thanks a lot though
