Online Gaming Question
I know this might be a stupid question, but what causes a bunch of lag in online gaming? The reason for asking is I have dial-up (dowloading is a blast, totally sweet) and I'
ve played AoE and Cube (with 7 other people) and not seen much lag at all, but when I tried Medal of Honor, I died all the time due to lag. So is it the quality of the game or something?

My guess is it depends on how much the game relies on the connection. For instance, I think AOE is pretty much all rendered locally with very little information being transferred. It may also have something to do with the host server if you are connecting to a game server...This is just a guess. It definitely is game specific. Some of my PS2 games are great online and others slow down.

Yeah, I'
ve wondered this too, because I remember playinig AoE games w/ micah and brandon (only micah has a fast connection, brandon'
s is quite slow and mine wasn'
t much better), but we would play with little to no lag issues, and I usually hosted the game, even the my connection was pretty sad.

Yeah I have noticed that some games are different than others becaue when I play AOE online with people I have no problems but with some other games It slows down.
What does ping 30 mean is it good or bad?

I think you are referring to the latency in the connection. If you open a dos prompt and type ping
www.google.com
or another ip address you will see how long it took for the information to get to the server and back.
