Very very weird problem
Yesterday I had this trial version of some game on my computer, and I uninstalled it, which went on without any apparent problems. I go to my folder where my downloads go by default... and they're all gone. This was the folder where the installation files were for this program, which is the only connection I have. All the files were totally gone... Fortunately it was nothing urgently important, just a pain to have to re-download them if I need them, but it was weird. Turns out, I start up firefox to mention this here, and I get the Firefox Import Wizard... weird right? I tell it to import nothing and sure enough, all my bookmarks, extensions, settings, saved passwords, etc are totally gone. Fortunately, I re-download the foxmarks extension and I can get all my bookmarks back, but it's still a pain. I just found it went so far as to clear all my skype settings, because I just launched skype and it gave me the dialogue to create a skype name. It cleared my settings in skype, because I double-clicked on a name, only to find out it called someone (default) rather than brought up a chat window (my custom setting). Does anyone have a clue at what I've done/got. I've got TCP view on my system, and there isn't a sign of something "phoning home," so I don't think I've got a virus/spyware, although most modern viruses aren't destructive anyway because they want to be undetectable. System Restore isn't finding a previous restore point oddly enough, so basically I'm stuck. I could understand somehow getting all your settings wiped somehow, I just don't understand why it wiped that folder, and there's no sign of it in the recycle bin. And since it's a pretty hefty folder in size, I can definitely notice by looking at free HDD space that's it's gone, and not moved. Any clues?
