Violence in the media
I chose to do my senior paper on violence in the media. Speaking to gamers and parents alike, I was wondering what your takes on it are. Feel free to say whatever you wish. I'm still very indecisive about my specific stance on the issue.

The poll is just for fun. I'd rather hear what you have to say, rather than just have you vote.

I don't like the dumb violence that is often times in inaccurate in movies. (violence that is not needed to make the point)

Other than that I think it is something that should be age appropriate. I don't think most first person shooters are really violent. It is playing virtual GI joe like you played when you were little. It is part of being a boy.

If the goal is to watch your opponent suffer or something like that then I think we have went too far. UFC (ultimate fighting) I think has gone way over the limit. It isn't a sport, it is closer to what Romans use to do.

I think the bigger problem in media is bad language and openly suggestive content. 10 years ago you would have never heard commercials about Viagra type products etc.....someone has dropped the ball at the FCC.

I agree with what byerspc says. I think like he said it depends on the age, and it depends on the kid too. If you've got a kid who is kind of a hothead and tends to get in fights in school (that kinda thing), he should probably steer clear of violence-oriented games and movies, because that's all you need is him getting used to if he gets mad at someone he gets them back, because at home he plays games for hours where whenever he wants he just punches people out.
